I paint with watercolors. I paint on both wood and paper. When painting on wood
I have moved from straight portraits to more elaborate surfaces employing gold
leaf and collage. I also use architectural elements such as columns and arches
to create pieces which can be touched and moved, rotated and changed. I often
work in three to seven piece screens; the aspect of these screens change with
how they are folded or hung. The collage papers I use are rice papers which
I dye with a variety of dyes to enhance my work.
I primarily paint portraits and my subjects are drawn from the world around me. It is a very multicultural world and my subjects, I find, reflect that diversity. I work from photographs. I shoot two or three roles of film per model, placing them in various poses so that I can refer again and again to that model. The models I use are friends, family and total strangers. Each time I start a new piece of work, I search my files of photographs for a model, as well as look for new faces to paint. I also accept commission work. My prices vary with the size and number of people to be represented.
On paper:
quarter sheet 11" x 15" $350
